There is something special about downtown Great Falls when people choose to show up, even when the weather does not cooperate.
This weekend, the rain came and went, but so did the people. As I spent time walking through downtown and visiting businesses, one thing became clear. There is a lot of energy building in the heart of our city.
A good portion of my time was spent in Times Square, visiting with business owners and hearing their stories. One of the most exciting developments is the upcoming opening of Lily Bean Espresso. The new coffee shop is creating quite a buzz and will be a welcome addition for shoppers, business professionals, and visitors looking for a place to relax, recharge, and connect.
As I made my way down Central Avenue, I was reminded just how many unique businesses call downtown home. Stores like Bison & Beargrass offer authentic Montana-inspired gifts and products that celebrate the spirit of Big Sky Country. Central Avenue Meats continues to showcase locally sourced Montana beef and pork, connecting consumers directly with local agriculture.
Longtime staples such as Inge's Fashions, Blue Rose, Grae & Co, and Kaufman's Mens Wear continue serving customers with personalized service that is becoming harder to find in larger retail environments. Mighty Mo Brewing Company, The Wild Hare, Brush Crazy, Pizazz, and 406 Creations and Curiosities each bring their own creativity and personality to the downtown experience.
Families and visitors can enjoy stops at Escape the Falls, Build a Buddy, and Stranger Things, while those looking for a sweet treat have no shortage of options. Little Light Coffee Co & Mini Donuts, Big Dipper Ice Cream, The Press Club and Sweet June's Freeze Dried Candy offer unique flavors that add to the charm of a downtown stroll.
The Newberry continues to be one of downtown's anchor destinations, bringing together shopping, dining, and community events under one roof. Brett Harris Farmers Agency represents another important piece of downtown, providing local service and helping families and businesses protect what matters most.
What stood out most was not any one store. It was the collective effort. Every storefront, every employee, every customer, and every entrepreneur plays a role in keeping downtown Great Falls alive and moving forward.
Rain or shine, there is momentum building downtown. And after spending the weekend walking the streets and visiting with business owners, I believe the future looks bright.
